A former University of Virginia football player, Aben graduated in 1996 with a degree in Psychology with certifications recognizing him as a conditioning specialist, medical exercise specialist, fitness instructor (National Sports Performance Association), as well a being educated in physical therapy techniques through the American Academy of Health Professionals. Proving he is dedicated to helping people reach their health and fitness goals, Aben doesn't like to refer to himself as a personal trainer acknowledging the stigma associated with the title due to the reality that anyone can merely take advantage of certification opportunities offered via the internet and consider themselves qualified.
He was schooled by nationally recognized organizations but relies heavily on the instruction he garnered from former coaches and football colleagues, one of whom was actually an Olympic trainer and NFL strength coach for the Redskins. Because he also worked in a health club, Aben is well aware of how people workout without knowing the basics involved in achieving optimum results safely and efficiently.
At Excellence In Fitness, Aben's motto is "Serious and safe strength conditioning." He prides himself on his ability to address both the serious-minded fitness devotee or athlete, as well as someone who just wants to get in shape. And since he does have a sports and fitness background, he can design a workout routine around a client's individual requirements and goals. Not only will he individually tailor workout session/s, but he provides instruction regarding predominant exercise myths and misconceptions as well as diet advice.
Aben affirms, "Most people don't actually know what they need, so I assess their goals and cater to their needs."
Aben's proficiency is n training of the entire body, and his studio is well-outfitted with a gamut of fitness equipment including a Power Squat Pro (used by NFL athletes), as well as free weights, bar-bells, Swiss balls, gear for grip work, an other machines he hand-picked himself based on his own experimentation and recommendations from coaches and colleagues.
Aben admits the conditioning part of what he provides is acquired through high-intensity training and a variety of techniques he's tested and approved, but also reveals he's not averse to incorporating new practices as long as they prove to be safe and effective. A testament to his proficiency he confesses, "99% of the people who come to me stay with me."
If obtaining one on one direction and training for the "whole body" is what you seek, and that ever-common New Year's resolution to get back in shape lingers in your mind, Excellence In Fitness is where you should be.
