Excellence in Fitness Staff
Jennifer Crisp
Jennifer Crisp, Registered Nurse, is the Assistant to Joe Aben, owner of Excellence In Fitness. Jennifer was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Howard County. She is married to Jim and has three children, Matthew, Michael and Tim and two daughters-in-law. She and her husband have lived in Anne Arundel County for over 20 years now and enjoy being near the water. Jennifer attended nursing school and worked as a critical care nurse at Baltimore Washington Medical Center for several years in the critical care step-down unit and specialized in cardiac care nursing. She also mentored many novice nurses to the demanding and stressful role as a nurse and acted as a Charge RN on many occasions.
Jennifer's background is quite diverse. She had no interest in sports through school; however, she was always interested in music and began studying voice at age 13. This led her to join various chorus groups and she had a long solo career with the St. Charles Chorale in Catonsville, Maryland. She was the lead soprano in that group for 10 years and performed much of the solo work. Her favorite composer is Mozart. She has also coached young vocalists as they prepared for various auditions and scholarships. She worked as a legal secretary out of college and then married, had her three boys and stayed home to raise them. After many years as a stay-at-home-mom, she decided to go back to school and become a nurse so that she could contribute to her children’s college tuition. Working as a nurse is a physically demanding job and Jennifer realized she needed to increase her strength and stamina for the job and she began weight training at Excellence In Fitness in October, 2005. She soon began to feel the benefits of high intensity training with weights and loved the philosophy of the holistic approach of the nutrition program at EIF. She left the hospital in July of 2008 and became a Home Health RN, but it was not her passion. She left there and began working for Joe that same year and is now part of the EIF staff.
Jennifer has always had an intense interest in nutrition and began studying the benefits of a more organic, whole foods approach to health even before it became popular. After some soul searching, she realized her passion was to teach and she is currently enrolled in the program for nurses at the National Institutes of Whole Health to become a Whole Health Educator with a dual certification in Nutrition as well. After the completion of this very intensive program, Jennifer will continue her role as an educator in the realm of health and wellness as it pertains to the whole person. This approach to wellness includes the five elements of optimal health; the physical, nutritional, environmental, spiritual and emotional. She knows as a nurse that the balance of these five elements is crucial for an individual’s well being and that if one or more of these are not balanced, the others will suffer. Here at Excellence In Fitness, she is excited to be part of this wonderful environment and is an invaluable asset for addressing the various health concerns of the clients as well as the staff.
